What is an X-ray?

An x-ray is a form of electromagnetic radiation, much like visible light. During an X-Ray, particles pass through the body and a computer is utilized to capture images that are created. 

What are X-rays used to diagnose?

What to expect?

  1. Before the scan, you will have to fill out a screening form that helps identify any red flags that can interfere with the imaging procedure or cause a health risk.  
  1. This could be being pregnant, metal within your body, pacemaker, etc. 
  1. Day of scan, you will be prompted to remove any jewelry or piercings before entering the X-ray machine       
  1. Remove clothing and use gown given  
  1. In the event your doctors asked for further detection, an I.V will be placed in your arm or hand.  
  1. You may be asked to lie down or remain standing up depending on area being examined. In general, an x-ray exam can take about 10-15 mins.

    How long do x-rays take? 

    Generally, it can take within 10-15 mins for a x-ray screening. Duration will depend on the areas of the body being examined and mobility during this procedure.  

    Is an X-ray safe?

    An x-ray picture is created by using radiation. The minimal dosage of radiation is used to create an x-ray picture at Alliance MRI. All requests for x-ray are closely monitored to ensure that patients receive the most exact diagnosis while using the least amount of radiation exposure.

    How long does it take to get X-ray results back? 

    In the event of emergency, x-rays are available within hours. However, typically these circumstances occur when an individual is taken to the ER from an accident or taken due to extreme pain.  

    What are the benefits of digital x-rays?

    Digital x-rays produce less radiation levels than traditional x-rays. The images produced by these types of x-rays are also high-resolution that can be analyzed and magnified to view additional antimoniacal features.
